Probably Stolen Evaporator: How to Use It
An empty distillate container does not automatically mean the Evaporator failed. In the release discussion, players distinguish removing water and alcohol from recovering them with a module.

Check what you are trying to collect
First decide whether the recipe needs the concentrated material left behind or a recovered liquid. These are different goals. A recovery container can stay empty even when the machine is removing unwanted solvent.
For the reported Dream Dust and caffeine-pill workflow, players say the concentrate can move to the Chem Finisher once the water and alcohol are gone. Alcohol recovery needs an additional module. These are community observations, not a published developer specification.
A useful way to test your setup
- 01
Read the recipe and installed modules
Write down which material you need at the next stage. Look for a module that explicitly describes recovery if collecting alcohol is your goal.
- 02
Record the input before the night
Note the contents of the original container and its mixture. A power change alone will not tell you where the useful product went.
- 03
Inspect both places in the morning
Check the original container as well as the distillate container. Compare composition with your notes before assuming the batch was lost.
- 04
Advance only when the recipe condition is met
Use the actual remaining contents and the next machine’s requirements. Do not repeat cycles simply because the collection container is empty.
Power used, no output: what to check
| What you see | Next check |
|---|---|
| Distillate container empty | Does the installed setup recover liquid, or only remove it? |
| Original contents changed | Is the concentrated material the input the next recipe step needs? |
| Neither container changed | Recheck power, valid input and the exact machine description in your build. |
| An old video behaves differently | Compare game version, modules and recipe before copying its timing. |
If it still looks like a bug
Keep the before-and-after contents, game version and module list together. A screenshot of only the empty collection container leaves out the part of the setup most likely to explain the result.
Make the next test with a small amount you can afford to lose. This guide does not assert a fixed energy cost, recovery percentage or universal processing time.
Common questions
Why is my Evaporator using energy but producing nothing?
Check the original container. The useful result may be the concentrate left there; players report that recovering alcohol requires a specific module.
Do I always need something in the distillate container?
Not for the concentrate-based workflows described in the linked Steam discussion. Check what the next recipe step actually consumes.
