Install from Steam Workshop
- 01
Open Workshop from Steam or the in-game Mods screen
Subscribe to the mod and wait until Steam finishes downloading. A pending download will not appear as an active mod.
- 02
Restart the game if it was already open
Newly subscribed mods typically show up only after a relaunch.
- 03
Open Mods on the main menu
Find the entry under Inactive, read the author and version notes, then Activate it.
- 04
Restart again when the game asks
Activation and a working feature are separate steps. Confirm the mod’s own checklist after the restart.
Install a local package
In Steam, use Manage → Browse local files to open the folder that contains Probably Stolen.exe. Put each mod in its own child folder under Mods, with manifest.xml at that mod folder’s root alongside the declared DLL and any required resources.
Avoid nesting an extra MyMod/MyMod layer. Launch the game, activate the package, and restart when prompted. Do not bypass activation checks with trust files or developer shortcuts.
Why MelonLoader usually fails
Published tests on release build 100-REV3 found MelonLoader 0.7.3 installing but failing to initialize because the game ships its own older Harmony library, while 0.6.6 could close before the main menu. MelonLoader mods therefore did not load on that build.
The built-in Mods menu still worked with MelonLoader present. Prefer Workshop or local ModLoader packages until a future MelonLoader or game update resolves the conflict. If you already installed MelonLoader, uninstall it carefully and keep the game’s own Mods folder.
If a mod does not appear or activate
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Full release vs old Demo folder | Demo MelonLoader workflows do not transfer to App 4348910. |
| Steam download finished? | Subscription alone is not enough. |
| manifest.xml location | The file must sit directly inside the mod’s folder under Mods. |
| Activated and restarted? | Many mods only apply after the second restart. |
| Author’s supported version | A mod built for another patch may refuse activation. |
