Probably Stolen Factions, Reputation & Endings
Trades move standing with six factions. Extreme negative standing and missed obligations can end a run; buying the shop is the documented ownership win. Read live dialogue before copying another player’s route.

The six reputation tracks
| Faction | Who they represent |
|---|---|
| Lower Levels | Neighbours and most frequent customers |
| Upper Levels | Wealthy visitors from higher floors |
| Security | Officers, inspectors and related enforcement |
| Black Market | Underground trade and related visitors |
| Revolution | Raiders, quartermasters and fighters |
| Sector 13 Cartel | Chemical quota / Dream Dust pressure (Chemist starts with this track) |
Tourists and some middle-layer tags may not create separate reputation entries. Community research documents fractional standing clamped beyond the visible −100…+100 perk band.
How standing usually moves
Buying and selling with a faction’s customers changes that track. Community implementation notes describe value-based formulas with visitor, contraband and difficulty modifiers—not a simple “profit ÷ 400” rule you can paste into a spreadsheet.
Wrongful reports, missed Cartel deliveries and heated goods can push Security or other tracks down quickly. Positive perks unlock at high standing; penalties apply at low standing. Check the in-game reputation panel after a risky trade.
This site has not independently re-derived every standing formula for every difficulty.
Endings and failure states
Reveal story spoilers
Community ending tables list shop buyout (cash or completed mortgage) as the ownership win that can continue the run afterward. Missing rent without grace can default the lease; missing mortgage payments can lead to repossession.
At about −100 standing, published tables describe Lower Levels → Lynched, Security → Framed, Revolution → Bombed, Cartel → Retired, and Upper Levels → Assassinated. Cartel collections that hand over no Dream Dust—or dust far below the asked purity—can reach the same Retired ending.
Other documented failure paths include arrest/execution after Security investigations, Lou-related bomb endings, Sentinel Collapse when the matching perk goes untreated, Augmented endings when aug presence maxes out on harder rulesets, and Meltdown when a Makeshift Reactor is neglected. Exact triggers can differ by perk and difficulty.
Practical habits that avoid soft-locks
- 01
Watch the faction that funds your week
If Lower Levels customers pay your rent, do not burn that track chasing one Upper Levels payday.
- 02
Report carefully
Community notes: wrongful reports hurt Security standing; low-tier sellers may not be worth the bounty.
- 03
Keep Cartel quotas honest if you are on that track
Deliver something close to the asked purity rather than empty-handed collections.
- 04
Separate story choices from reputation math
Eleanor and Lou pages cover specific arcs; this page covers systemic standing and run-ending thresholds.
Common questions
How many factions are in Probably Stolen?
Community systems pages list six reputation factions: Lower Levels, Upper Levels, Security, Black Market, Revolution and Sector 13 Cartel.
What happens at −100 reputation?
Published ending tables tie extreme negative standing to run-ending events such as Lynched, Framed, Bombed, Retired or Assassinated, depending on the faction.
Is buying the shop the only ending?
Buyout is the documented ownership win. Many other outcomes end the run early through rent, Security, story bombs or reputation floors.
