Probably Stolen Furnace: How to Smelt Metal Ingots
Put 2 pieces of Scrap Metal or ore into a powered Furnace and leave it overnight to get 1 Metal Ingot for 8 energy. More ore in the batch gives a higher-purity ingot (2 scrap = Low, 1 ore = Fair, 2 ore = High). Purity matters later: it decides how many Gun Parts the 3D Printer makes.

Furnace at a glance
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Base price | 200 Credits |
| Size | 9 cells (3 × 3) |
| Energy | 8 per night |
| Normal batch | 2 Scrap Metal / Metal Ore / Rare Metal Ore → 1 Metal Ingot |
| Blast Module batch | 3 metal → 2 Metal Ingots |
| Junk Module | 6 Junk → 4 Scrap Metal (only on nights smelting does not run) |
How to smelt step by step
- 01
Load 2 metal pieces
Any mix of Scrap Metal, Metal Ore and Rare Metal Ore works — it is 2 pieces in total, not 2 of each. The Furnace picks from the end of the list, so spare ore is used first.
- 02
Leave room for the output
Only one ingot slot is checked in advance. With the Blast Module, keep space for two or the second ingot may not appear.
- 03
Power it
The Furnace needs 8 energy per night. Performance upgrades do not add extra batches — you still get one batch per night.
- 04
Check the ingot’s purity
Inspect the ingot before printing. Its purity is locked into any 3D Printer job that uses it.
Ingot purity: scrap vs ore
Purity starts at Low and moves up with the share of ore in the batch, plus one step per 100 raw machine quality. Grades run Very Low, Low, Fair, High and up to Perfect.
| Batch (0 quality, no flux) | Ingot grade |
|---|---|
| Normal: 2 scrap | Low |
| Normal: 1 scrap + 1 ore | Fair |
| Normal: 2 ore | High |
| Blast: 3 scrap | Very Low |
| Blast: 1 scrap + 2 ore | Low |
| Blast: 3 ore | Fair |
Flux Smelting Agents
| Flux | Effect |
|---|---|
| Basic Flux | Raises the quality term to one step if it is below one; consumed only when it actually helps |
| Advanced Flux | Same minimum of one step, but reusable — it is not consumed |
Flux never replaces metal and does not stack on top of a Furnace that already has 100+ raw quality.
Furnace modules
| Module | Price | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Blast | 150 | 3 metal in, 2 ingots out, but one purity step lower. Does not stack. |
| Junk Processing | 120 | Turns 6 Junk into 4 Scrap on nights the Furnace has nothing to smelt. |
Salvaging a broken Furnace
The scrap dealer sells broken Furnaces that cannot smelt. Salvage gives 4 nuts, 4 wire and 5 scrap, and there is a good chance of loose modules inside (Corrupt modules at 66% and 40%, Ruined at 66%). Remove modules before cutting the body with a Plasma Cutter.
Common questions
How do you smelt in Probably Stolen?
Put 2 Scrap Metal or ore in a powered Furnace (8 energy) and wait one night. You get 1 Metal Ingot, or 2 ingots from 3 metal with the Blast Module.
How do I get a higher-purity Metal Ingot?
Use ore instead of scrap: 2 ore gives High, 2 scrap gives Low. Flux or Furnace quality upgrades add a further step.
Does Furnace performance make more ingots?
No. Performance does not add smelting batches. Use the Blast Module for 2 ingots per night.
